Community Health Workers graduation.

During May and June, 2012, 32 community members, graduated as PASOs Promotores (Community Health Workers). These Promotores teams are now in Greenville, Newberry and Beaufort communities giving appropriate health messages to the Latino community and helping families navigate the health care system. The groups are very diverse, comprised by people of different  ages, nationalities, talents and experiences. Topics covered during the workshops include; communications skills, appropriate use of health care services, team building, leadership, active listening confidentiality, etc. PASOs will continue to support these leaders by providing more opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. Margarita Franco, Director of Community Leadership Development, coordinates the program with the support of Yajaira Benet-Smith, Ana Cossio and Andrea Pajon PASOs Coordinators in those sites and Mary Lohman, former PASOs intern. The number of people working towards the health and well being of the Latino community is now greater. Congratulations PROMOTORES!

In the fall, new Promotores teams in Charleston and Clarendon areas will be created.
