Yajaira Benet-Smith, PASOs Coordinator in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, was awarded a Volunteer of the Year award from the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, on February 21, 2013.

November 30, 2012 (Columbia, SC) — PASOs has been selected as one of five organizations in South Carolina to receive grant funding under the Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention program.

PASOs helps the Latino community and service providers to work together to have strong and healthy families.

Beginning in January 2013, PASOs will offer a new series of topic-based educational workshops and health outreach. Each month, our community-based education will focus on a different topic that will help Latina women and their families be strong and healthy.

On the day of our last workshop for parents with the Saint John Neumann school group in Richland County, we met at EdVenture Children’s Museum. It was also the closing workshop where 11 people received the PASOs for Parents graduation certificate for completing the program based on the “Nurturing Parent” curriculum.

The Lipscomb Family Foundation has awarded PASOs a grant to train a group of parent leaders who will prevent child abuse and teach positive parenting skills.

Julie Smithwick, Executive Director of PASOs, will present at the second TEDx Talks in Columbia, SC.

PASOs work was presented at the 2012 annual American Public Health Association (APHA) conference in San Francisco, CA.
